In order to obtain the Carrara marble look without the Carrara marble price, the customer chose porcelain tiles from Jeffrey Court. These 4″ x 12″ tiles come with a believable grey marble veining. The grout used to finish the kitchen backsplash was Laticrete PERMACOLOR Select and the color used was Bright White. To trim the exposed tile edges, trim from Schulter was used that matched the pulls from the cabinetry. As always, the size of the space between the countertop and first row of tile was made equal to grout joint and filled with matching color Laticrete Acrylic caulk. Not grout as is often done. Finally, in order to achieve an even cleaner look, the outlet covers were replaced with Leviton Decora Screwless Wallplates .
Customer was looking to get a fireplace tiled using the float method. The hearth was prepared in such a way as to ensure the finished tile height was flush with the adjacent floor. To ensure a clean and smooth transition, Schluter Jolly tile trim was used in between the two surfaces. To eliminate any exposed tiled edges, Schluter Jolly was used in the firebox opening as well.
In this step the work area is protected and the fireplace is prepared for tiling. To protect the adjacent areas, construction grade paper is adhered. Diamond lath is attached to the surround using appropriate fasteners so that mortar can be applied. Finally, measurements are taken to ensure the finished tile height is flush with the adjacent flooring.
Once the preparation work has been completed, the tiling takes place. A tile leveling system from Tuscan is used to ensure there is no lippage. The outside corners of the fireplace surround are tiled using mitered corners. To ensure continuity, the tiles are cut ensuring the tile pattern is book matched.
Client had a drab wall with a fireplace that needed to be moderized. The client wanted the look of marble without the associated cost. Porcelanosa’s Marmol Carrarar Blanco was chosen to dress the wall. To ensure the exposed edges of the tile were not exposed, Scluter Trim was used to surround the firebox opening.
